In order to participate in Lobster Lessons, students MUST have passed the Seahorse level AND be able to:

  • Tread water for at least 10 seconds
  • Front & Back float to standing
  • Front & Back streamline with kicks for 5 yards to instructor
  • Backstroke with arms & kicks for 5 yards
  • Complete 3 Freestyle strokes, roll, and then 3 Backstrokes


In the Lobster level, students focus on stroke and side breathing refinement. This course is taught in the 4-5 foot area of the pool.

The following skills must be met in order to pass the Lobster level.

  • Streamline into Freestyle with big arms, side breathing, and kicks for 10 yards
  • Backstroke arms with kicks for 15 yards
  • Streamline into Breaststroke with kicks for 10 yards
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Perform kneeling dive
