Wed, 2p-3p
5-12
Contra Costa County Library - Clayton

Join Storytelling Artisan and Educator Alicia M. Retes for an introduction of Indigenous Central California storytelling and musical rhythm instruments.

Listeners will be given the opportunity to play ethnic rattles including those of the Yoreme (Mayo) and Yoeme (Yaqui) of Sonora, Mexico of whom Alicia is descended. Alicia will teach a Pan-American song “Earth My Body” combined with physical movements reminding us interdependence on Mother Earth, and will perform her adaptation of The Three Sisters - Corn, Bean and Squash with 1- 7’ tall corn husk story characters.

Alicia's stories promote diversity, peaceful relations, and prosperity for all and are geared toward children ages 5 and older and their adult caregivers.

This program is in celebration of Native American Heritage Month and made possible by the Clayton Community Library Foundation

For special accommodation, please contact the Library with 72 hours notice.

This activity is presented by Contra Costa County Library and scheduled to take place on Wednesday 11/20 from 2p-3p at Contra Costa County Library - Clayton. For more information, click "Participate" to visit the website of Contra Costa County Library.
