The Junior Guard Camp provides the opportunity for teens/preteens, ages 10-14 years old to challenge themselves both mentally and physically through a series of classroom sessions, in-water trainings, on-deck drills and actual hands-on learning in the areas of lifeguarding. This program has been designed to give students the tools necessary to be successful when they take their Lifeguard Training course at age 15. Focus will be made on the importance of responsibility, decision-making and the ability to perform learned tasks. Make this a worth-while summer and spend your time learning these invaluable life skills. Topics to cover (but not certify) include: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR, and Water Safety Instruction. Each week will have a theme with activities to mix up the fun!
Participants should be able to pass a level 3 Swim Lesson Exit Assessment (below) and will be tested on the first day of class.
Jump into deep water from the side, recover to the surface, maintain position by treading or floating for 1 minute, rotate one full turn, then turn as necessary to orient to the exit point, level off, swim front crawl and/or elementary backstroke for 25 yards, then exit the water.
Push off in a streamlined position, then swim front crawl for 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, swim elementary backstroke 15 yards, then exit the water.
Participants should come prepared for class with a swim suit, towels, sunscreen, goggles, water and snacks!
Precautions we are taking to ensure health and safety of participants and staff:
Covid - 19
Staff and participants are asked to stay home if you are sick &/or experiencing symptoms such as coughing, fever, chills, shortness of breath, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea or vomiting, muscle or body aches. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html).
Air Quality
We have adopted the following guidelines for recreational programs during times of poor air quality. The guideline is based on Air Quality Index (AQI) levels as established by the Bay Area Quality Management District. When the air quality index reaches the red zone (151 to 200) or above, outside activities and programs will be suspended. Indoor activities and programs will be suspended when air quality gets into the purple zone (201 to 250) or above. We will monitor the air quality daily and notify you if there is a cancellation or postponement.
There are no upcoming sessions at this time. Please check back later. In the meantime, you can browse other activities.
