Swim Lessons - Levels 1-3

Advance Your Swim Skills Safely

Presented by City of Napa Parks & Recreation Department

Government-Organized

Officially recognized by the local government

These group lessons are for levels 1-3, ages 6-13. Small classes with a 1:5 (6 maximum) instructor to student ratio allow each student to advance in their swim skills and progress towards more efficient swimming and water safety.

Level 1 is designed to help students feel more comfortable in the water. They will be taught elementary skills including breathing skills, arm circles and kicks.

Level 2 students will be taught fundamental skills such as floating (front & back) without support, propel themselves with a flutter kick, and practice rhythmic breathing. Students in this level should be able to enter the water independently, bob, and front glide.

Level 3 is designed for the intermediate swimmer, students will work on perfecting the skills the previously learned and be introduced to elementary backstroke, rotary breathing and dolphin kicks. Students in this level should be able to float for 15 seconds, swim 5 body lengths, and roll onto their back from a floating position.

*Students will be tested and assigned the appropriate level on the first day of swim lessons. If you have a progress report from a previous lesson with us, please bring that on the first day so your child can bypass the testing session. Please arrive early for check in and additional instructions.

Precautions we are taking to ensure health and safety of participants and staff:

Covid - 19

Staff and participants are asked to stay home if you are sick &/or experiencing symptoms such as coughing, fever, chills, shortness of breath, new loss of taste/smell, diarrhea or vomiting, muscle or body aches. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html).

Air Quality

We have adopted the following guidelines for recreational programs during times of poor air quality. The guideline is based on Air Quality Index (AQI) levels as established by the Bay Area Quality Management District. When the air quality index reaches the red zone (151 to 200) or above, outside activities and programs will be suspended. Indoor activities and programs will be suspended when air quality gets into the purple zone (201 to 250) or above. We will monitor the air quality daily and notify you if there is a cancellation or postponement.
