Pilates

Strengthen your core and improve flexibility

Presented by South San Francisco Parks and Recreation

Government-Organized

Officially recognized by the local government

Pilates works the entire body in addition to the mind. The focus is on the core of the body so the rest of the body can freely move.  This makes your body stronger on the inside and outside. The balance is meant to be present between flexibility and strength, resulting in stronger and leaner muscles. Pilates movements are slow, precise, and controlled. Breathing is full breath as well as gentle and natural, not forceful. Slowly stretching, moving, and elongating your total body will help improve joint movement. Learn to first mobilize in order to prepare for movement. Build more strength, improve balance, and strengthen core muscles to protect your back and spine (back problem, number one injury). Bring a mat (or large towel to lay on) and 2 water bottles (if you do not have a pair of 2lb or 3lb weights.
