Reyes Kenpo Karate has been teaching self defense through the City of Vacaville since 1967. This 12 week course will instill confidence, self respect and respect for others. Students will learn mental and physical strength as well as self-discipline. The main focus of this course is personal safety and safety of others through self defense. Students will learn proper offensive and defensive Karate maneuvers including blocks, punches, kicks, grabs, takedowns, and sparring techniques. Attending classes twice a week is advised for belt progression.

 Red School shirts are required and may be purchased at class. Long black loose or stretchy pants are also required (student supplied). Full uniforms will be required after the 1st completed session.

Intermediate and Advanced Junior Self-Defense (ages 5-8) have a prerequisite of Beginning Junior Self-Defense within the Parks & Recreation Department Reyes Kenpo Karate courses.

Instructor: Grandmaster Instructor Ed Zickowski, (Sifu Z) 9th degree Red/Silver belt, Reyes Kenpo since 1977.

This course has a prerequisite of Intermediate Junior Self Defense (JSD). After earning their 3rd belt (yellow/orange).

Reyes Kenpo Karate will help you gain confidence, stamina, strength, a positive self-image, and respect for others and self. Mental discipline, self-respect, physical health and personal safety are the focus of this course, within the realm of Self Defense. Students will learn proper offensive and defensive Karate maneuvers including blocks, grabs, takedowns, kicks. Attending classes twice a week is advised for belt progression.

 

This course modified and follows all state and county guidelines for youth sports.

 

The program will be following these protocols-

  • Classes will be limited to no more than 14 students per class.
  • Classes will be held outdoors.
  • Classes will be structured so that the same participants meet weekly.
  • Temperature checks will be conducted prior to each class. 
  • There will be no shared equipment such as bags for striking.
  • Each participant will be staged at least 6 feet apart.
  • Field markers or cones will be used to designate each student’s space.
  • Students will be reminded to only bring water bottles to class and will be directed to place them at least 6 feet apart.  
  • Participants will not have physical contact with one another this program is for conditioning only.
  • Participants will be required to wear a mask at all times when not separated by the required minimum of 6’.
  • Classes will be focused on “conditioning and training” to perform tasks in a manner that they can learn self-defense techniques with an “invisible” partner until restrictions are lifted.
  • Spectators/parents will NOT be allowed until restrictions are lifted.
  • Hand sanitizer will be provided for use.
  • Tradition required a handshake with the instructors at the beginning and end of class. This is done to show respect for the instructor and the art. This will not be required at this time. We will begin and end each class with a bow and salute to instructors

Advance classes are only for students who have the completed the Beginning Courses within the classes of the Vacaville Parks & Recreation of Kajukenbo Kenpo Karate.
