In this course you will learn to code in Java through hands-on lessons. It will cover the fundamentals (data types),
conditional statements (if else), and how to understand compilation errors and fix them. We will be using replit.com, a free, browser-based IDE (Integrated Development Environment). By the end of this course, you will walk away with confidence to write basic code using Java.

This course is intended for children in grades 5-8

PLEASE NOTE:

Participants will need to create a free account on replit (they'll be using it to practice their coding). Please sign up here prior to the first session: https://replit.com/signup

This course will have four one hour-long sessions and will meet weekly and is presented by a student volunteer. Participants should not register unless they are able to attend all sessions (sessions will not be recorded so live participation is required to learn the material). Registered participants who miss the first session may lose their spot in the program. Also, missing a class may cause a student to fall behind. (Instructors usually do not share their presentation materials so attending class regularly is crucial.)

As a courtesy, a waitlist will be provided, but please note this does NOT guarantee admittance to the class. Should a space become available, participants will be notified by email.
