Contra Costa County Library - Hercules

In honor of Veteran's Day, Hercules Library is proud to introduce you to our friends, The Walking Ghosts of Black History, a Hercules nonprofit historical and educational organization exploring the history of African American's engagement in the history of the United States Military.

Join us for a Veteran's Day of remembrance, with The Walking Ghosts of Black History (TWGOBH) Founders Leon Watkins and Larry Thompson talking about their work, events, and contributions of African Americans in military history.

And all month, stop by Hercules Library to visit TWGOBH's educational display, featuring the events of the motion picture "Glory", & The Battle of Ft. Wagner. The conception of TWGOBH began when Leon Watkins was cast as the flag bearer for the national colors with the Massachusetts 54th Regiment in the motion picture "Glory". Recognizing Watkins’ true commitment to his ideas and vision, the film producer, Freddie Fields, contributed 20 Civil War uniforms used in the movie to help start The Walking Ghosts of Black History organization.

This activity is presented by Contra Costa County Library and scheduled to take place on and Saturday 11/9 from 3p-3:30p at Contra Costa County Library - Hercules. For more information, click "Participate" to visit the website of Contra Costa County Library.
